At Scott Jordan Furniture Inc., we have been making platform beds in our Brooklyn workshop for over 30 years.  All of our platform bed frames are made from solid hardwood sustainably harvested from local forests.  Our preferred wood species are American Black Cherry (prunus serontina), black walnut (juglans nigra), sugar maple (acer saccharum),  or  red oak.   The Sleigh Style Platform Bed has a long history dating back to the early 19th century.  Early examples of this style are highlighted by "scrolled" or curved head and footboards thus resembling a sleigh.  This Empire style, as it was known, was a design similar to pieces found in the ruins of ancient Rome and Greece.
