Shown here as a low foot platform bed, we also make our Waverly bed with a foot-board that echoes the headboard at a lower height.
All of our beds are available in any size from a simple twin all the way up to a king or California king. At our workshop we use only select hardwoods that are from local, sustainable sources; these include maple, cherry, and walnut.
Our goal is crafting heirloom quality furniture. From our study of traditional methods we know that solid mortise and tenon, bolted construction will enable our bed frames to endure for generations. We believe that they can last for the lifetime of the wood itself, which can be hundreds of years if preserved properly.
The mattress rests on a sturdy array of hardwood slats supported in the center by a central leg and beam. There is no need for a box spring or foundation.
We know from experience that one major reason that a bed frame becomes unusable is that the owner loses the hardware for assembling the bed. This often happens in moving. To address this issue we decided years ago to use only hardware that could be easily obtained from a well stocked hardware store. We do not use specialty hardware, specific only to the furniture industry, which might prove difficult to replace when lost.
Our Waverly Bed is precision crafted in our workshop at the former Brooklyn Navy Yard.
